About

I’m Adrian Brough the founder of West Cumbrian Data and Analysis. I have around 15 years’ database development experience.

I specialise in  databases containing an MS SQL data store for robustness and speed and fronted with MS Access for flexibility and rapid development of the user interface.  I also work in AirTable an SAAS databbase and use SQL code or make.com processes to interact with other databases and services via APIs. I’ve worked in a range of industries so I understand manufacturing, wholesale, service and retail workflows and requirements.  I check MS SQL databases into Git source control using Visual Studio to provide robust control of data structures and changes.

I work in an agile fashion with functionality delivered or upgraded bit by bit for larger projects so that work can be scoped and refined as needed as part of the development process.  I aim to make systems clean and modular so that changes in one area do not have wide ranging impacts.

I also provide advice and training particularly in MS SQL (T-SQL) querying based on my years as a commercial analyst using SQL to extract value from complex sales and operational data.

I have been a freelance Database Administrator and Developer supporting a range of Small and Medium Businesses  since 2017.  I use databases to drive businesses profitablity by simplifing sales and operational processes and by leveraging the value contained in the data with clear basic reporting.  I work across a range of industries including both manufacturing and services.

Before going freelance I had eight year experience as a Commercial Analyst and Database Developer in the publishing industry following on from two decades as an academic Chemist specialising in materials characterisation and problem solving.
